Helping Children Victims of Violence Express Their Emotions, IPB University PKM Team Creates Emotion Card Abadi
The IPB University Student Creativity Program Team in the field of Community Service (PKM-PM) has developed an innovative learning medium called “Emotion Card Abadi”. This innovation was born out of the students’ concern for children who are victims of violence, who often find it difficult to express their feelings.
This innovation was developed by Niko Faiz Fahrezi together with his team members, namely Kayla Aulia, Afifah Afra Anindya Asirwada (Sharia Economics), Muhammad Farhat (Family and Consumer Sciences), and Alya Cahya Kamilah (Bioinformatics), and supervised by Dr Defina (Lecturer in Family and Consumer Sciences).
“Children who are victims of violence need a safe space to channel their emotions. Through this game, they are encouraged to recognize, understand, and express their emotions appropriately so that they can build healthier communication with others,” explained Niko.
Emotion Card Abadi is designed in the form of emotion expression cards with four types of cards that are given different colors and meanings, namely Blue Cards (sad), Green Cards (happy), Yellow Cards (excessive), and Purple Cards (emotion cues). These cards help children recognize feelings through simple pictures and colors, making the learning process more fun and educational.
Muhammad Farhat, a member of the team, added that Emotion Card Abadi is not just a game, but also an interactive and therapeutic learning tool. These cards, he said, can help children understand a variety of emotions, recognize their triggers, and practice controlling them.
“Thus, children are not only trained in communication, but also strengthened in the formation of healthy social-emotional character in accordance with child character development theory,” said Farhat.
This innovation was also involved in the Kasih Abadi (Eternal Love) activity at the Bina Matahari Bangsa Foundation, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, some time ago. This activity is part of LENTERA (Empathy and Norm Training in Temperance for Child Resilience), a character-building program for children who are victims of violence in the aspect of instilling self-control.
The LENTERA program is in line with the Asta Cita of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, especially in the human resource development agenda that emphasizes the protection of children’s rights.
The team hopes that this innovation will support the character recovery process of children who are victims of violence. Through simple but meaningful media, the Emotion Card Abadi becomes a means for children to build self-confidence, increase empathy, and foster resilience in facing life’s challenges.
In this way, children can develop into stronger individuals who are ready to thrive in their social environment. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RMH)
