Rector Instills Values and Character in 138 New IPB University Employees
IPB University held an Onboarding Training for 138 employees from July 12–September 2, 2025. This series of activities was officially closed at the Toyib Auditorium, Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta), IPB Dramaga Campus (9/2). The 138 employees consisted of 111 civil servant lecturers (PNS), 10 non-PNS lecturers, and 16 educational staff.
In his speech, IPB University Rector Prof Arif Satria conveyed several important messages to the employees who had just completed the onboarding training. He said that the role of lecturers is not only to transfer knowledge, but also to foster enthusiasm, values, and character.
“What makes us successful is being lecturers who love teaching, not just teaching because it is our duty. If a lecturer does not enjoy interacting with students, then even academic success will not bring true happiness,” he said.
Furthermore, Prof Arif highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence for lecturers and educational staff. This includes self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and the ability to build good relationships.
“With empathy and good relationship management, an educator will find it easier to inspire and have a positive impact on students and colleagues,” he added.
Prof Arif hopes that new IPB University employees can use these values as their main foundation in their careers, so that they can make a real contribution to the development of IPB University and the progress of the nation.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Resource and Infrastructure Resilience, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, expressed his appreciation to all parties who had made the event a success. He emphasized that onboarding was not just a formality, but an important agenda for instilling character and internalizing institutional values.
“That way, new employees can adapt more quickly to the work culture at IPB University,” he said.
Director of Human Resources, Dr Heti Mulyati, added that onboarding is an important means of comprehensively understanding organizational culture and core professional values. This year, the training was condensed into five days of classes from the previous ten days, with an emphasis on field practice.
“All participants passed with an average score of 82,5–83,87,” Dr Heti reported. The assessment included pre-tests and post-tests (25%), attendance (15%), activity (20%), and self-actualization (40%).
In addition to covering basic material on the history and education system of IPB University, participants were also introduced to various campuses and assets of IPB University, and were required to develop a long-term career roadmap, including plans for further doctoral studies for young lecturers.
“This roadmap serves as a reminder for each employee regarding their career development goals, from studies, academic positions, to strategic contributions at IPB University,” she concluded. (AS) (IAAS/ASY)
