Himafarin IPB University Creates Beach Classes, Introduces Marine Ecosystems to Fishermen’s Children
Dozens of members of the IPB University Fisheries Resource Utilization Student Association (Himafarin) conducted community service activities in Cikahuripan Village, Sukabumi. This activity aimed to support village community empowerment through training and mentoring programs.
The activity consists of three work programs (proker) aimed at fishermen, fishermen’s children, and the environment, respectively. One of the programs for fishermen’s children is the Beach Class.
“This project aims to develop the knowledge and skills of fishermen’s children, specifically at SDN Nelayan. Activities carried out include introducing the fishery ecosystem and developing innovation and creativity through ecoprint crafts,” said Juan Febrian Panggabean, representative of Himafarin.
The introduction to the fishery ecosystem was carried out using images. This activity aims to provide a deeper understanding of fish species and the importance of preserving the marine ecosystem.
In addition, to develop and improve children’s creativity and motor skills, the student team also conducted an ecoprint program on fabric, namely tote bags.
“Hopefully, this program can increase elementary school children’s understanding and knowledge of basic fisheries science,” hoped Juan.
“Thank you to the older siblings who taught at this elementary school; I was able to learn mathematics and fisheries. Thank you very much,” said Al-Ghifari, a fifth-grade student at SDN Nelayan. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RMH)
