Education for All, DPMA IPB University Introduces Hydroponics Practices at SLB BC Harapan Ibu
The Dharma Wanita Persatuan Kementerian Koordinator Bidang Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (DWP Kemenko PM) collaborated with IPB University to introduce hydroponics practices to students and teachers at the BC Harapan Ibu Special School (SLB) in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
IPB University, through the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA), provided easy-to-apply hydroponic farming skills with economic potential. Participants were given theoretical and practical material on basic hydroponic techniques, ranging from preparing tools and materials, making nutrient solutions, planting, to plant care.
Ananda Putra, coordinator of the resource team, revealed that this vertical hydroponic system can be installed in places with limited land. “Hydroponic farming can be done anywhere and by anyone. Hopefully, this training will be useful for the students and teachers at SLB Harapan Ibu,” he said.
This training initiative was also welcomed by Rustini Murtadho Muhaimin as Advisor to the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture. “Everyone has the right to grow, develop, and be independent through education,” she said.
Therefore, according to her, this hydroponics training and practice is an important step in opening up access to knowledge and skills that can be useful for the independence of children with disabilities.
“They all have the same opportunities, and today we can prove that hydroponic education can also be done by children with disabilities with guidance from their older siblings from IPB University,” said Rustini.
The hydroponic training activity is the first step in the commitment of DWP Kemenko PM and IPB University to continue collaborating in supporting education and training programs that promote independence and sustainability. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RMH)
