Rabuan Meeting, Rector: IPB University Has Made an Impact on Society and Industry
The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, presented the IPB Performance Achievement Report for Semester 1 of 2025 at a Rabuan Meeting held online (8/13). At the event, Prof Arif emphasized IPB University’s commitment as an institution capable of creating value for society and industry.
“We aim to build IPB University not only as an academic leader but also as an institution that can make a tangible impact, provide solutions, and create value within society and the business world,” he stated.
Based on IPB’s 2024–2028 milestones, the main theme for IPB University in 2025 is “Innopreneurship and Value Creation for Community and Industry.” Prof Arif explained that all of IPB University’s strategic programs are aimed at addressing this challenge.
Several programs have been designed to strengthen IPB University’s role in society and industry. These include research commercialization, agricultural innovation, and technology-based community service.
Since 2018, various IPB University programs have reached 6.675 villages, while the One Village One CEO (OVOC) initiative has placed faculty members and students to lead economic transformation in 1.430 villages.
Some student startups nurtured through the OVOC program have also successfully penetrated export markets, such as Singapore, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. “We want students to be ready to work while also being able to create job opportunities. That is the tangible form of value creation we are promoting,” he said.
The Precision Village Data Program is now implemented in 1.239 villages/neighborhoods. He advocates for this method to become a national program for big data-based development planning.
“The innovations we create don’t stop at the campus but extend to villages, farmers, fishermen, and small business owners so they can advance,” he emphasized.
Globally, IPB University’s achievements have also improved. According to the QS World University Rankings, IPB University jumped from the 751–800 range in 2018 to 399th worldwide in 2025, even ranking 49th globally and first in Asia (by Subject Agriculture and Forestry).
IPB University is also strengthening its international collaboration networks, including with Kyoto University, Wageningen University, UC Davis, National University of Singapore, Erasmus+, and KOICA. The collaborations focus on food, environmental, and sustainable technology research. “Collaborating with industries and universities worldwide makes our innovations more relevant and competitive,” he explained.
In the field of education, IPB University is restructuring its curriculum into K2025 to continuously respond to dynamic changes. This Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum will be implemented starting August 2025, with a focus on equipping students with the skills needed by future industries.
IPB University is also preparing an entrepreneurship pathway from business planning, mentoring, to incubation at the Science and Technology Park (LKST).
“All these efforts are undertaken to ensure IPB University becomes a university that makes an impact, not only producing competent graduates but also agents of change for the nation’s progress,” concluded Prof Arif.
Furthermore, the Vice Rectors and Institute Secretary presented in more detail the achievements and programs implemented in each field. (Fj) (IAAS/STD)
