The Department of Biology at IPB University is once again holding a prestigious international conference, The 6th International Conference on Biosciences (ICoBio) 2025, on August 5–6, 2025, at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor.

With the theme “Bioscience Innovations Toward Nation’s Sovereignty,” the conference serves as a platform for scientists, researchers, and practitioners to discuss, build collaborations, and address global challenges through a bioscience approach.

ICoBio 2025 Executive Chair Prof Rika Raffiudin explained that what distinguishes this edition from previous ones is the refinement of the theme, which now emphasizes the aspect of national sovereignty.

“We added ‘Nation’s Sovereignty’ to the end of the theme because we want to show that bioscience innovation has a major contribution to Indonesia’s sovereignty in various sectors,” she continued.

Prof Rika emphasized that this theme is also increasingly relevant to global targets, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “We always link it to the SDGs, especially point 17, which is Partnership. We can achieve great things and address many issues comprehensively through collaboration with various partners across disciplines,” she said.

The conference is also expected to yield tangible benefits in the form of research collaborations, scholarships, and scientific publications. “We have already established several research collaborations and scholarships. Additionally, many students are participating in scientific presentations, which will result in Scopus-indexed publications,” Prof Rika revealed.

The Vice Rector for Global Connectivity, Collaboration, and Alumni at IPB University, Prof. Iskandar Z Siregar, stated that the theme of ICoBio 2025 aligns with Indonesia’s national strategy outlined in President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, particularly in terms of food and energy security, environmental resilience, and technological independence.

The highlight of ICoBio 2025 will feature prominent keynote speakers, including Prof. Rizaldi Boer (Director of CCROM-SEAP) and Dr. Amandine Hénon from the Museum of Natural History (MNHN) in France.

Other speakers include Prof Nampiah Sukarno (IPB University), Dr Sanjay Swarup (National University of Singapore), Dr Stéphane Jamain (INSERM, France), and Prof Rusea Go (Universiti Putra Malaysia).

Furthermore, ICoBio 2025 will also host a side event titled “The 7th Summer Course in Biology: Tropical Insect Biology.” The event will feature interactive poster sessions, panel discussions, and parallel sessions, providing participants with opportunities to network and engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue.

All accepted papers will be published in the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, which is indexed by Scopus. Selected works will also be invited for publication in affiliated journals such as HAYATI Journal of Biosciences and others. (dr) (IAAS/LAN)
