Cania Citta and Jovial da Lopez Invite New Students of IPB University to Think Critically with Integrity
Content creator Cania Citta and comedian also actor Jovial da Lopez invited new students of IPB University to hone their critical thinking skills while maintaining integrity. The message was delivered on the second day of the 62nd IPB University New Student Campus Introduction Period (MPKMB) (8/12), in a session themed Critical Thinking with Integrity.
According to Cania, critical thinking is not always synonymous with criticizing. “Sometimes, criticizing without basis is not critical thinking. In essence, critical thinking is knowing the truth, checking information, looking for proof, and understanding the validity of the source,” she said.
The influencer and author of the book “So, Think! (Makanya, Mikir!)” emphasized that the scientific method learned in college should be applied in everyday life to find the truth.
Jovial added that in the era of social media, the line between logic and emotion is getting thinner. “We often make decisions based on personal likes or interests. In fact, critical thinking means having solid logic and being able to see problems from various points of view,” said the creator of Epic Rap Battles of Presidency.
Both also discussed the importance of integrity. Jovial explained that integrity is the harmony between thoughts, words, and actions. He reminded students to use artificial intelligence (AI) wisely. “AI can be used to speed up the thinking process, but there must still be effort from ourselves. Don’t leave everything to the computer,” he said.
Cania believes that honesty in the learning process is a long-term investment. “Diplomas only open the door to employment, but what makes us survive is ability and character. Integrity actually benefits ourselves,” she said.
In the Q&A session, Jovial shared his views on time management and information consumption. “What you see and hear will shape your way of thinking. Use your time to access useful content,” he said.
Cania added the importance of being aware of allocating time wisely.
“Every hour we spend is a lost opportunity to do something else. Always think, from the activities we do, what are the benefits for our life goals,” she said.
The event closed with an optimistic message from Jovial, which Cania agreed with. “If you graduate with these two traits, critical thinking and integrity, the future of Indonesia will be very bright,” concluded Jovial to the applause of the participants. (Fj) (IAAS/KQA)
