IPB University’s Student Dormitory is once again filled with spirit and enthusiasm as it welcomes 2.350 Dormitory Residents (Insan Asrama) of Batch 62, who began arriving and registering to stay in the dormitory from July 27–31, 2025.

This first-year student dormitory is designed for students who have received the Indonesia Smart College Card (KIP-K) scholarship as well as other students who are interested and passed the selection process. The total of new IPB University’s students (Bachelor’s/S1 and Applied Bachelor’s/D4 programs) in 2025 are 8.573 students.

Insan Asrama, the distinctive term for residents of IPB’s Student Dormitory, this year come from all across Indonesia. Approximately 60 percent are from Java Island, with the remaining 40 percent from Central and Eastern Indonesia, making the dormitory a vibrant space that is rich in cultural diversity and background.

The 2025/2026 academic year marks a significant leap forward in the service system of the IPB University Student Dormitory Management Unit (UPAM). All the process–from registration, payment (billkey separated from the single tuition fee/UKT), room allocation, to student arrival–is now digitally integrated through IPB’s Student Dormitory Information System (SIAMI) at siami.ipb.ac.id.

Director of UPAM IPB University, Dr Suratni elaborated that the arrival process for Dormitory Residents is organized into three efficient and well-directed main service zones.

Zone 1: Digital Registration (Grha Widya Wisuda/GWW)

Students complete initial registration by taking a selfie via the SIAMI app, then they are being called based on the system’s queue number. This process is quick and accurate, minimizing long queues and data duplication.

Zone 2: Luggage Transport and Mobilization (GWW Parking Area)

After registration, students proceed to Zone 2 for luggage transport and transit to their dormitory building:

  • Luggage is transported using pickup trucks that are assigned each building.
  • Students and companions (maximum 2 people) are shuttled to their respective buildings using IPB buses.
  • Field officers conduct luggage checks and ensure all of the entire process runs safely and orderly

Zone 3: Confirmation & SR Welcome (Dormitory Buildings)

Upon arriving at the dormitory building, students enter Zone 3. Here, they simply click an attendance confirmation in their room via SIAMI. Senior Residents (SR)–upperclassmen serving as mentors and friends to new dorm residents–welcome the new students.

SR also provides initial education on dormitory regulations, diversity values, and self-development activities within the dormitory environment.

As part of character education, parental accompaniment is only permitted as far as the building lobby. From the outset, UPAM IPB emphasizes the values of independence and personal responsibility as the foundation for dormitory life.

Dr Suratni stated that this service transformation is part of strengthening the Integrated Dormitory Services (Litera), which has been digital-based since 2023. Through Litera, students can access various administrative, reporting, maintenance, and mentoring that are integrated and comprehensively accessible.

“Welcome to your second home. This is where your journey begins, not just as students, but also as individuals growing amidst diversity and leadership values,” she said in welcoming the Dormitory Residents.

She emphasized, “The IPB University Student Dormitory is not merely a place to live, instead it is a living space that shapes character, fosters empathy, and strengthens a sense of belonging. Welcome, Dormitory Residents of the 62 Batch. Your remarkable journey begins here.” (*/Rz) (IAAS/EXC)
