IPB University has once again strengthened its commitment to promoting innovation commercialization. Six innovations have been officially licensed to six strategic industry partners through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (SPK).

According to the Chairperson of the Science and Technology Park (LKST) at IPB University, Prof Erika B Laconi, the signing of the SPK marks a concrete step in transferring technology from research and innovation by IPB’s academic community to the business world.

The six officially licensed innovations cover various strategic fields, such as agricultural technology, fisheries, food, and software, with the following details:

  1. FERADS 1.0 software, an innovation by Prof. Anas D Susila, in collaboration with PT Makerindo Prima Solusi.
  2. Jagung JHG 02, an innovation by Dr Willy Bayuardi, in collaboration with PT Botani Seeds Indonesia.
  3. Virgin fish oil extraction from tuna eyes, an innovation by Prof Wini Trilaksani, in collaboration with PT Biomedical Technology Indonesia.
  4. Soft capsules based on virgin fish oil from tuna eyes and virgin coconut oil, an innovation by Prof. Wini Trilaksani, in collaboration with PT Biomedical Technology Indonesia.
  5. Cooling box for small fishing boats, an innovation by Dr Ayi Rahmat, in collaboration with PT Cahaya Hijau Indonesia.
  6. Seaweed rice, an innovation by Prof Sri Purwaningsih, in collaboration with PT Karya Husna Solusindo.

On that occasion, Prof Erika emphasized the importance of downstreaming as an effort to directly connect the strength of academic research with industrial needs.

“Downstreaming innovation is not merely a strategic academic step, but also a real contribution to national economic development,” she said recently.

Representatives of industry partners welcomed this collaboration positively. They hope that IPB University’s innovations can provide added value in product development and company competitiveness in the national and global markets.

In line with this, the inventors also expressed their appreciation for the facilitation provided by IPB University through LKST. “We are grateful that the innovations we have developed have found the right partners for real-world implementation. This synergy motivates us to continue creating relevant and impactful innovations,” said one of the inventors.

The ceremony was attended by 30 participants consisting of researchers, inventors, and industry partners. This activity marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between IPB University and industry partners.

Going forward, Prof Erika said that the licensing scheme developed by IPB University will continue to prioritize the principles of sustainability, strategic partnerships, and adaptation to industry dynamics.

“IPB University is committed to continuing to bridge the gap between innovators and industry, not only at the initial stages of collaboration but also during the implementation of licensing and the potential for income generation for researchers and the institution,” she concluded. (*/Rz) (IAAS/LAN)
