EnviroFest: United Tractors and IPB University’s Faculty of Forestry and Environment Plant 1.000 Trees to Beautify the Campus Forest Park
The Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan) at IPB University collaborated with United Tractors (UT) to organize EnviroFest-Voluntary Day on Saturday (7/ 5) at the IPB Campus Forest Park in Dramaga.
Before the 1.000 tree planting activity, the event began with feeding 36 Timor deer (Cervus timorensis) and visiting the breeding center for 13 Bali starlings (Leucopsar rothschildi). The tree species planted included matoa trees, durian trees, nutmeg trees, and jackfruit trees.
According to Ari Sutrisno, Director of PT UT Tbk, the 1.000-tree planting program is one of UT’s pillars for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative is also implemented through innovative fuel consumption programs in the company’s internal business processes.
Dr Nyoto Santoso, Chaurman of the Department of Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism (KSHE) at IPB University and Coordinator of the IPB University Campus Forest Park, stated that environmental issues are increasingly escalating, as are threats to biodiversity.
“Therefore, moving forward, we aim to contribute to programs releasing species bred in captivity back into the wild. For this, collaboration between universities and industry is needed to produce populations that can be returned to their natural habitats,” he said.
Putri Indonesia Intelegensia 2024, Lady Diandra, also noted that this initiative has a positive impact on the environment and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals that Indonesia must achieve.
This event serves as an opportunity to encourage all Indonesians to cultivate a culture of planting and loving trees. Planting trees should become a daily habit for everyone. (*/Rz) (IAAS/LAN)
