SNPMB Committee Reveals UTBK-SNBT Cheating Modes, IPB University Ensures Implementation in Accordance with Procedures

The National Selection Committee for New Student Admission (SNPMB) held a press conference on Tuesday (4/29) which was broadcast live via SNPMB’s official YouTube and Instagram. In the conference, the committee revealed various modes of cheating in the implementation of the 2025 National Selection Computer-Based Test (UTBK-SNBT).
Chairman of the Quality Management Office (KMM) of IPB University, Dr I Wayan Nurjaya, IPB University ensures that the implementation of UTBK on the campus of IPB University runs according to procedures. As the party in charge as the coordinator of monitoring and evaluation (monev), KMM always conducts strict supervision.
“We ensure that supervision goes well while maintaining the comfort of the participants,” he said when responding to the incidents of cheating that have emerged lately.
“We have prepared supporting facilities such as exam rooms, computers, public transportation, and location information for the convenience of participants,” he added. He also mentioned that KMM collects information from supervisors, participants, and parents as evaluation material that is reported to the central committee.
In a press conference (4/29), Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Fauzan, explained that the dynamics of UTBK this year were higher than in previous years due to improved service standards and operational procedures.
“We have even predicted potential fraud since before the exam through anomalous data analysis,” he said.
Fauzan emphasized that UTBK questions could not be leaked because the number of questions prepared exceeded the number of exam sessions. “For 23 sessions, we prepare 23 sets of questions plus reserves. All questions are stored offline and not connected to the internet,” he said.
Some types of fraud found include attempts to take questions with hidden devices, the use of jockeys, falsification of documents, and manipulation of participant identity data.
The committee detected as many as 13 UTBK centers across Indonesia involved in this case, involving around 50 participants and jockey networks across provinces. The most fraud was found in participants who chose the Faculty of Medicine study program.
The SNPMB committee also opens the possibility to review the graduation of previous years’ participants if indications of cheating are found, even to students who are already in the second or fourth semester. The committee emphasized that it will continue to follow up on the findings of this fraud and cooperate with law enforcement officials. (IAAS/LAN)
