In the context of community service and supporting the economic empowerment of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in South Korea, the School of Business (SB) IPB University in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Seoul held a seminar entitled “Smart Investing and Successful Franchise Business”.

This seminar was part of the program Kami Mantap Pulang dari Korea (Kampung Korea) Special. The event, which was held in a hybrid manner in the Multipurpose Room of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, was attended by more than 110 participants of PMI in South Korea.

Professor of the School of Business of IPB University, Prof Hartoyo also added that this activity is part of the campus commitment in broadening students’ horizons while contributing to the Indonesian community.

“This activity is part of IPB University’s School of Business commitment to broaden students’ horizons and experiences, as well as a tangible form of our service to the Indonesian people wherever they are, including in South Korea,” he said.

The seminar presented three students of the Doctor of Management and Business (DMB) 22 SB IPB University program as speakers, namely Fazri Zaelani, Tri Raharjo, and Rudianto S Binantoro. All three are practitioners in the field of investment and entrepreneurship.

In the first session, Fazri Zaelani, a professional in the investment field, provided insight into various investment instruments that can be accessed with affordable capital but still promise significant growth.

Continuing to the second session, Tri Raharjo, Founder of infobrand.id, thoroughly discussed franchise business opportunities. He explained, “The franchise business model offers advantages in the form of a recognized brand, a proven operational system, and relatively lower risk.” Tri also emphasized the importance of a strong branding strategy to build a sustainable business.

In closing, Rudianto S Binantoro, owner of Arfa Barbershop UGM, shared the story of his journey to build a business from scratch, complete with location selection strategies, efficient operational management, and effective marketing tips.

In this event, Ad Interim Chargé d’Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, Zelda Wulan Kartika, said that migrant workers have great potential to invest and start a business. “I invite migrant workers to become agents of change by creating independent business centers in their respective regions after returning to Indonesia,” she said.

This seminar is expected to be a real start for PMI to start investing and entrepreneurship independently after returning home. With the knowledge and inspiration gained, it is hoped that more successful entrepreneurs will be born from among PMI. (*/Rz) (IAAS/LAN)
