Bringing CoDampresso, IPB University Physics Department Team Won 1st Place in International Product Design Competition
The CoCofellas team consisting of three outstanding IPB University students from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), won first place in the prestigious 15th Product Design Competition (PDC) organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of North Sumatra (USU).
The international competition with the theme “Sustainable Design: Pathway to a Greener Economics” attracted 61 teams representing 26 universities in Asia.
In the midst of intense competition, the CoCofellas team not only managed to amaze the judges with their innovation, but also won the Best Presentation award, proving their ability to effectively convey product ideas and concepts.
Addressing the crucial issue of circularity and increasing the added value of agricultural by-products, CoCofellas presents a creative and sustainable solution in the form of an innovative acoustic board. The product, named CoDampresso, utilizes abundant agricultural waste, namely coconut fiber and coffee grounds, as the main material.
The CoDampresso innovation proves to be not only environmentally friendly as it is 100 percent biobased, but also superior in acoustic performance. Test results show that this acoustic board has a wide frequency range and is equivalent to similar commercial products on the market. In addition, CoDampresso also has good mechanical performance and attractive aesthetic value.
This solid CoCofellas team consists of three talented students from the Department of Physics of IPB University, namely Annisa Nur Azahra, Pristy Tasya Nabila, and Salsabilla Permata Bayah. Their success cannot be separated from the dedicated guidance and direction from Dr Yessie Widya Sari.
As the supervisor, Dr Yessie said the success of the CoCofellas team is clear evidence that Indonesian students have great potential in producing innovations that are not only scientifically smart, but also relevant to global issues such as environmental sustainability. This achievement also made the Department of Physics of IPB University and Indonesia proud in the international arena.
“Congratulations to the CoCofellas team for this extraordinary achievement! Hopefully the CoDampresso innovation can continue to be developed and make a positive contribution to the environment and the wider community,” said Dr Yessie. (IAAS/RWA)
