Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria encouraged Al Hurriyyah Mosque to become a pioneer of green mosque. This was conveyed during the groundbreaking of the construction of the new ablution place and toilet of Al Hurriyyah Mosque at IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor, Friday (23/11).

The event took place in the courtyard of Al Hurriyyah Mosque, as part of the first phase of renovation of mosque facilities.

In his speech, Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, expressed his gratitude for the resumption of the project that had been planned since 2018 but was delayed due to a number of obstacles.

“Alhamdulillah, we can restart the construction of the ablution place and toilet of Al Hurriyyah Mosque. We plan the first floor to be a place for Friday prayers, considering the number of IPB University students which now reaches 35.000 people,” he said.

Regarding the green mosque, Prof Arif said, “My message to the Al Hurriyyah Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) is to initiate a green mosque, so how to manage water so that it can be circulated, because today’s issues are food, energy, and water.”

He added that the green mosque concept must also reflect the principle of inclusivity. This means that all groups, even the less well-off, can easily access and benefit from the presence of this mosque.

The Chairman of the Al Hurriyyah Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM), Prof Abdul Munif, emphasized that the construction of ablutions and toilets has been planned for a long time. Especially at this time, the number of congregates is increasing, so that new facilities are needed to be more adequate.

“Therefore, the construction of ablutions and toilets is expected to be part of the solution to accommodate larger congregations,” he added. In addition, the ground floor of the mosque can later be used for learning activities.

The groundbreaking was also attended by Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs, Prof Deni Noviana; Vice Rector for Resource Resilience and Infrastructure, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet; and Secretary of the Institute, Prof Agus Purwito. (AS/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
