The Association of Nutrition and Animal Feed Students (Himasiter) IPB University launched the Cultivating program in the Bucket (Budikdamber) in Sinarsari Village, Dramaga District, Bogor, West Java. This activity was carried out at RT 8/RW 2 with the aim of increasing the availability of food for the community, especially for children who are indicated for stunting.

The Budikdamber program combines catfish farming with vegetable cultivation in one system, namely efficient and environmentally friendly aquaponics. Through this method, people can utilise the limited land around the house to produce nutritious food.

“This activity is designed to support local food security as well as provide an alternative source of additional income for families,” said Mutiara Rizkia Nurkamil, Leader of the Capacity Building Program of the Student Organisation (PPK Ormawa) Himasiter.

In the implementation of this program, Himasiter collaborates closely with local residents to build storage and management of budikdamber. The IPB University student team held a training session that included techniques for making a breeding system, selecting catfish seeds, and how to grow the right vegetables. Participants were also taught how to take care of fish and plants so that they could grow optimally.

“With catfish farming and vegetables in buckets, people can produce their own food. This is a concrete step to create food security at the household level,” Rizkia explained.

One of the residents involved and as a land provider, Kholis, expressed his support. “I am happy to have an initiative like this.

With budikdamber, we can grow vegetables and cultivate catfish at home. This is very practical and anyone can try it easily,” he said.

“We strongly support this initiative because it is very beneficial for the community. With the budikdamber program, we hope to reduce dependence on unhealthy food and increase food independence,” said the Chairman of RT8/RW2.

Rizkia added, the budikdamber program is expected to not only increase food availability, but also provide education about the importance of balanced nutrition to prevent stunting in children. PPK Ormawa Himasiter is committed to continue to accompany the community in the cultivation process and will conduct periodic evaluations to ensure the success of this program.

“With the successful launch of this program, it is hoped that Sinarsari Village can be a model for other villages in an effort to increase food security and overcome malnutrition problems,” she said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/TIA)
