The Way KKNT Innovation IPB University Students Make Children Love Maths
IPB University’s Innovation Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) students held a “Bring Brighter Future Together” programme. This motivational and tutoring programme emphasises the important role of education in creating a brighter future together.
“We created the Bring Brighter Future Together tutoring programme because we saw the enthusiasm and high learning spirit of the children in Margamulya Village, Bandung, West Java,” said Sofi Latifah as the person in charge of the programme.
In addition, according to KKNT Innovation team member, Septiani Rizky Dewi, the programme was also created to make it easier for them to understand the subject matter, especially mathematics in their school through various methods and fun games.
Rizky explained that the programme is divided into two segments. The first segment is held every Monday, Tuesday and Friday at the KKNT Innovation Post, attended by more than 20 children in grades 1 to 4 from SDN Margamulya 01 and 02. The material taught is adjusted to the material provided by the teacher at school.
“In addition to the material, this tutoring programme is also interspersed with quizzes and games related to the material taught,” Rizky explained.
The second segment was held for four days and attended by dozens of grade 5 and 6 students from SDN Margamulya 01 and 02. The material taught was jarimatika or how to calculate, especially multiplication using fingers.
In addition, the programme was also equipped with several maths games, including Tactic Cards, Maths Puzzle, Top Ranking.
Rizky explained that Tactic Counting Card is a maths game using cards that contain numbers and are arranged to produce a predetermined number using various number operations.
“The Maths Puzzle is a puzzle game that contains mathematical number operation questions. Both games require co-operation and collaboration between group members. Meanwhile, Top Ranking is an individual quiz on the material that has been taught,” said Rizky.
Principal of SDN Margamulya 02, Herningsih said, “This programme is very helpful for students in understanding school subjects, especially mathematics. This is because maths is one of the important keys in education, and is very useful for everyday life.”
“Moreover, coupled with various fun games, it will definitely make students feel happy and easy to learn maths,” she added.
With this tutoring programme, Sofi and Rizky hope that students at SDN Margamulya 01 and 02 will be able to apply the knowledge they have gained to make it easier for them to understand the subject matter, especially mathematics.
“In addition, hopefully they will have the motivation and enthusiasm to learn to pursue the highest education possible for a bright future,” she hoped. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RSL)
