IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKNT) students organised educational activities for Juru Pemantau Jentik (Jumantik) which were packaged in the form of fun games. This activity aims to increase the awareness of SDN Kemuning students about the importance of preventing dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in a creative and interesting way.

The educational event began with 3M Plus education: drain water reservoirs, close water reservoirs, and bury used items; Plus: avoid mosquito bites, sleep using mosquito nets, and use mosquito repellent.

Adam Zuhdi, a student of KKNT Inovasi IPB University explained that this activity involved games specifically designed to teach students about dengue prevention. One of the main games was ‘Check Puddles’.

“In this game, students are divided into groups and asked to look for puddles around the school, especially in places that may not be visible. The puddles found are then checked to make sure there are no mosquito larvae,” said Adam.

“This game is not only fun, but it also teaches us practical ways to prevent mosquito breeding grounds,” explained Ade, one of the student representatives who also played an active role in the activity. Ade added that this activity made them more aware of the potential of stagnant water that could become a breeding ground for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, the main cause of DHF.

In addition, Adam continued, KKNT Innovation IPB University students also organised a ‘Garbage Collector’ game. In this game, students were asked to collect rubbish in the school area. The garbage collected is then sorted and placed in the correct place. This activity aims to teach students about the importance of keeping the environment clean and its impact on health.

“During the activity, we not only provide guidance, but also interact directly with the students, making them feel comfortable and involved. We explain in a simple and easy-to-understand way, so that the message of dengue prevention can be conveyed effectively,” he said.

This activity received a positive response from the students. Many of them seemed enthusiastic and actively participated in the games. “I am very happy to join this activity. Now I know how to prevent DHF and I also learnt how to keep the environment clean,” said Rian, a Grade 6 student.

“We are very grateful to the KKNT Inovasi IPB University students who have taken the time and energy to provide education to our children. This activity is very important to instil early awareness about health and hygiene,” said Beti, a teacher representative of SDN Kemuning in her speech.

Overall, the JUMANTIK Cilik educational activity at SDN Kemuning was successful in combining learning with fun. The KKNT Inovasi IPB University students have succeeded in creating an experience that is not only educational but also fun, leaving a deep impression on the students and educators at SDN Kemuning.
