In order to support the Fish Eating Community Movement (Gemarikan) program, IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) students held educational activities and introduced the importance of eating fish at SDN 1 Kondangjajar, Pangandaran, West Java. This activity aims to increase fish consumption and nutrition for students.

Aqila Fadiya Irawan, a student of KKNT Innovation IPB University explained, tuna was chosen as the main ingredient for making shredded fish because it is easily available in coastal areas. In addition, tuna has a high protein content, and is also rich in omega-3 which is beneficial for brain and heart health.

“This activity not only increases students’ knowledge about the benefits of fish, but also trains their creativity in processing food ingredients. The resulting shredded tuna can be enjoyed as delicious and nutritious side dishes or snacks,” said Aqila Fadiya, a student of IPB University.

Aqila admitted that the Gemarikan program at SDN 1 Kondangjajar was able to increase students’ interest in consuming fish and understanding its benefits for health. They were also enthusiastic to try various other processed fish recipes.

Oop Ropiah, Principal of SDN 1 Kondangjajar gave high appreciation to IPB University students for the Gemarikan program that had been implemented. She hopes that this program can continue to be held in the future to increase students’ awareness about the importance of consuming fish.

“The Gemarikan program at SDN 1 Kondangjajar by making shredded tuna is a creative and useful example to increase fish consumption and nutrition of students. With interesting education and practice, it is expected that students will be more aware of the benefits of consuming fish and make it part of their daily diet,” said Oop Ropiah. (*/ra/Rz) (IAAS/PRO)
