IPB University’s Innovation Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) students collaborated with Harapan Bangsa PAUD Unit (SPS) to hold a ‘Cheerful Children’s Festival’ in commemoration of National Children’s Day. The activity was held at SPS Harapan Bangsa, Kalensari Village, Widasari District, Indramayu Regency, West Java.

National Children’s Day is celebrated as a fulfillment of the right for children to grow, develop and participate. KKNT Innovation student representative, Yayang Berliana Tamara, said that the children were very enthusiastic about participating in this series of festivals.

“The series of activities include elementary school drawing competitions, coloring competitions and fashion show competitions for kindergarten and elementary school levels. These competitions are held in order to develop the interests and talents of each child,” said Yayang.

She added that the children were enthusiastic about this activity because many of them have a hobby of drawing and coloring. In accordance with statements from several children that coloring and drawing activities are very exciting and entertaining. “It’s very exciting, happy and the pictures are good even though I’m a little tired of coloring,” said Rafa, one of the festival participants.

The children’s parade was carried out with a route around Kalensari Village. The parade was attended by elementary and kindergarten children as well as their mothers. They were very enthusiastic about this parade. The fashion show competition was attended by 28 participants. The clothes they used varied, from professional uniforms to regional traditional clothes.

“The children who participated in this competition looked very happy. The mothers were also enthusiastic in preparing their children to participate in this competition,” said Ayang.

Apip, a teacher representative of SPS Harapan Bangsa said, “This festival makes the children happy and increases their confidence early on to perform in public.”

Ayang assessed that the relationship between parents and children is also getting closer. This can be seen from the preparation of very luxurious fashion show competition costumes, each child wants to give the best appearance.

“The theme made the children recognize the diverse cultures of Indonesia. The festival succeeded in developing children’s interests and talents and fostering their nationalism. Through this festival, it is hoped that the children of Kalensari Village can love the nation and the customs of their own region more,” she explained. (*/Rz) (IAAS/PRO)
