IPB University Students Collaborate with Posyandu to Promote Gemaik, an Anti-Stunting Effort in Karangtengah Village
IPB University students have completed the Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Innovation program in the form of the Gemar Makan Ikan (Gemaik) campaign as an anti-stunting effort. This program is in the form of anti-stunting socialization and cooking demonstrations of catfish nuggets as an innovation in complementary food for toddlers in Karangtengah Village.
The campaign was conducted to posyandu cadres and representatives of mothers with toddlers. The event was held at the Village Health Post, Karangtengah Village, Cilongok District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java.
The event was filled by a resource person, Zulfikar Ahmad, AMdGz (Nutritionist at Cilongok Health Center). Also attended by the Leader of Karangtengah Posyandu, Nur Wiji Setianingsih, AmdKeb and the Leader of Karangtengah Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) and Posyandu cadres.
“The anti-stunting campaign and cooking demonstration of making catfish nuggets were initiated based on the results of village research and discussions with the Leader of the posyandu. Stunting cases in Karangtengah Village currently have a fairly low presentation, but it does not rule out the possibility that stunting cases do not exist,” said Fatiha Zahra Zulfi, IPB University student.
The Leader of Karangtengah Posyandu, Nur Wiji Setianingsih, AmdKeb stated that this event has many benefits to educate mothers in the village, especially pregnant women, about the importance of stunting cases for children.
Zulfikar Ahmad, AMdGz, as the resource person, provided information to participants about the factors that can affect children affected by stunting, the conditions of child growth, and the nutritional intake that is important for children.
“The factor that causes stunting is genetics, which can affect around 30 percent. Other factors are environment and family. During the first 1/000 days of the child is the golden period, if there is a nutritional deficiency, it must be resolved immediately,” he said.
The event continued with a demonstration of cooking catfish nuggets as a follow-up to the material session, especially on the importance of consuming fish to prevent stunting. (*/Rz) (IAAS/HRD)
