Students of the Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Innovation from IPB University have started a series of educational activities for elementary school students in the Sukajadi Village area, Tamansari District, Bogor Regency. This activity aims to increase the awareness of 5th grade students of SDN Gadog 03 about waste education and creative activities in processing waste through an interactive and practical educational approach.

Lutfi Syahreza Lubis, one of the KKNT Inovasi student members, said that the activity called Sukajadi Kreatif was held for three days. The series of activities began with a storytelling session or role play that highlighted the negative impact of littering.

This was followed by a material socialisation on the types of waste, techniques for sorting organic and inorganic waste, and the importance of recycling. The activity ended with a creative workshop to make plant pots from used gallons and plant ketapang kencana trees.

“We aimed the socialisation at grade 5 students of SDN Gadog 03. In this socialisation, the students were taught how to sort organic and inorganic waste, as well as the importance of recycling to keep the environment clean,” Lutfi explained.

The students looked enthusiastic following the explanation and various educational games prepared by the students. The second day’s activities focused on creative efforts to reduce plastic waste by decorating used gallons into flower pots.

“Students together with grade 5 students of SDN Gadog 03 gathered in the school yard to carry out this activity. A total of 6 used gallons that were previously unused have now turned into beautiful and functional flower pots,” he said. According to her, this activity not only teaches new skills, but also inspires students to be more creative in utilising used items.

On the third day, the activity continued with the planting of ketapang kencana trees. These trees were planted using flower pots that had been decorated on the previous day. This tree planting aims to increase greenery in the school area and provide long-term benefits for the environment.

“With the spirit of gotong royong, the students and 5th grade students of SDN Gadog 03 hope that these trees can flourish and provide benefits for future generations,” said Lutfi.

He added that the series of KKNT Innovation activities in Sukajadi Village showed the commitment of IPB University students in providing environmental education and empowering children through creative and useful activities.

“Hopefully, this activity can have a positive and sustainable impact on students at SDN Gadog 03 in maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability in Sukajadi Village,” he concluded.

Eni Ratnaningsih as the Principal of SDN Gadog 03 said, “As the principal, I thank the students of KKNT Inovasi IPB University for contributing and helping the learning process at school and accompanying the 5th grade children so that they become more creative.” (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
