The IPB University Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKNT) team in Bangsri Village, Brebes, Central Java held a demonstration of making liquid organic fertilizer (POC) at the residence of Sudiyanto, Chairman of the Joint Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Group of Bangsri Village.

During this time, onion skin waste is rarely utilized by the community and is simply thrown away. The lack of public awareness and knowledge about the benefits of onion skins that can be used as fertilizer is the reason IPB University students held this program.

“Onion skin contains growth hormones that are good for plant roots. The purpose of this counseling is to reduce onion skin waste in Bangsri Village, which is famous for its abundant onion production,” said Aditya Akbar, a student of KKNT Innovation IPB University.

He said that the group of breeders and farmers looked very enthusiastic listening to the explanation and demonstration of POC making. The participants involved no less than 20 villagers.

“The activity took place interactively and two-way communication also went well. The making of POC by utilizing onion skin waste has never been done before in Bangsri Village,” he said.

Aditya said that Bangsri Village is famous for its excellent onion farming. The abundance of shallot farming has a problem in the form of abundant onion skin waste. “Therefore, the Bangsri group of breeders and farmers are very enthusiastic about the process of making POC,” he said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/HRD)
