Fish Feed Innovation in Pangkalan Village, KKNT Innovation IPB University Students Introduce BSF
Students of IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture in Pangkalan Village, Pati, Central Java, held a counseling entitled ‘Optimizing Fish Cultivation: Utilization of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) as an Alternative Feed to Reduce Production Costs’.
This event was one of a series of activities initiated by KKNT Innovation IPB University students. The counseling was attended by local community leaders, such as the Chief of Pangkalan Village, Mochamad Sutrisno, and the Chief of the Fish Farming Group, Harsono.
Audine Iqlilia Sabrina, IPB University student from the Department of Aquaculture (BDP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) said, “The main objective is to increase the knowledge and skills of fish farmers in using BSF as an efficient alternative feed, in order to reduce operational costs and dependence on commercial feed.”
Dr Ichsan Ahmad Fauzi, a lecturer from the Department of BDP at IPB University, delivered materials on the nutritional value of BSF, methods of feeding BSF as feed, and research results on the use of BSF in various fish species. He also held an interactive discussion with the participants, which made the session more lively and useful.
After the presentation of the material, the participants were invited to practice BSF cultivation guided by KKNT Inovasi IPB University students, Muhamad Hildan Saumrachman and Aditya Rizqi Wardana. This practice was enthusiastically welcomed by the fish farmers who attended.
Harsono, one of the participants as well as the Chief of the fish farming group expressed his gratitude. “I am very grateful for this activity. I learned about natural alternative feed using BSF. After a lot of socialization, this is the first time there is something related to feed. I will try to do it at home,” he said.
The Chief of Pangkalan Village, Sutrisno, at the end of the activity said, “This activity is very beneficial for the people of Pangkalan Village, because it can reduce operational costs so that the income of Pangkalan village can increase.”
Sutrisno continued, with the success of this counseling, it is hoped that fish farmers in Pangkalan Village can apply the knowledge that has been obtained, so that fish farming becomes more efficient and environmentally friendly. (*/Lp/Rz) (IAAS/Ard)
