SKHB IPB University Provides Animal Health and Sacrificial Meat Inspectors with Practical Skills

School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science (SKHB) IPB University provides practical skills training to animal health and sacrificial meat inspectors. These officers will be deployed to several sub-districts in Bogor Regency, Bogor City, Depok City, and DKI Jakarta Province on June 16-17.
The training covers antemortem and postmortem examination. These skills are needed in checking the condition of the presence of foot and mouth disease (FMD), lumpy skin disease, and vigilance against peste des petits ruminants.
The training was attended by 560 students of the Undergraduate Program and Professional Veterinary Education (PPDH), with guidance from 8 lecturers of SKHB IPB University as instructors. The activity took place in two locations: Teaching Animal Hospital and Poultry Slaughterhouse Room SKHB IPB University.
“One of the efforts of SKHB IPB University in ensuring the competence of examiners who will be deployed to the community is to provide this training,” explained Dr. Herwin Pisestyani, Chief Executive.
“This practical training complements the theory that has been given previously. With this theoretical and practical provision, SKHB University sacrificial officers are expected to be able to check the health of animals and sacrificial meat appropriately and correctly, so that the sacrificial meat consumed by the community is guaranteed safe, healthy, intact, and halal (ASUH), “ he added.
This practice is carried out in one session. Students were divided into small groups of ten each and accompanied by one lecturer. Each student participated in two practical activities: antemortem examination in the field and postmortem examination in the laboratory.
“We are greatly helped by this briefing, which emphasizes the methods and practices of examining sacrificial animals in the condition of several diseases that have been endemic, such as FMD and lumpy skin disease, before going to the field,” said one of the participating students. (AP/Rz) (IAAS/STD)
