Welcoming the role towards research-based universities and international reputation, the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) IPB University continues to develop staff capacity to write scientific papers with international quality standards. The target towards an international class university will not be able to be achieved if qualified human resources (HR) are not prepared. Therefore, it is necessary to gradually strengthen the capacity of human resources in the field of coastal and marine management.

“The achievement of the institution is very much determined by the achievements of the staff who support the institution, so the steps of PKSPL IPB University to hold training in writing international journals need to be used as a medium that needs to be developed in the development of study centers at IPB University,” said the Vice Rector of IPB University for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development, Prof Ernan Rustiadi.

At the same time, Head of PKSPL IPB University, Prof Yonvitner added, the training participants were also attended by IPB University Postgraduate students. More than 50 participants attended this training. Interestingly, PKSPL IPB University fellowships were also present. They are students from Wageningen University and Research (WUR) who are conducting joint studies with PKSPL IPB University and PIAREA Institute.

Scientific writing training was delivered by Prof Ing Jiri Patoka from the Czech University of Life Science (CULS) and accompanied by Dr Surya Gentha Akmal as a co-facilitator. The material presented included an introduction to international and reputable journals, techniques for extracting ideas and thoughts, word selection techniques, exercises in understanding writing that succeeded and failed to publish.

Not only that, he also explained communication techniques with journals and reviewers, as well as developing citations through google scholar, researchgate and web of science (WOS).

After the training, training instructor Prof Ing Jiri Patoka gave participants the opportunity to communicate as a space for scientific publication assistance. Thus, communication can be established between mentors and training audiences.

Ahmad Solihin, SPi, MH, Vice Chairman of PKSPL IPB University in the field of socio-economics emphasized, “PKSPL IPB University staff have ample opportunities to grow and develop towards IPB Digdaya and international class universities in the future,” he said.
