Science and Technology Regional Institute (LKST) of  IPB University together with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) held Training on Writing and Preparation of Patent Document Specifications. This training was held within the framework of Patent Examiners Go To Campus aimed at more than 60 innovators consisting of IPB University lecturers and students. The activity was held on Thursday (13/7) at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor.

Dr Tri Prartono, Vice Chairman of LKST for Innovation and Technology Transfer said that IPB University had done a lot of research and developed technology. "IPB University as one of the tertiary institutions is required to contribute in the form of innovations that can be used and commercialized in society," he said.

He added, LKST IPB University annually carries out patent property register activities for innovators. "Today IPB University's LKST has collected 60 manuscripts and there will be 10 days of training for debriefing and mentoring innovators," said Dr Tri.

The Director of Copyright and Industrial Design of DJKI, Anggoro Dasananto, who was present at the event, explained that one of the accreditation instruments in tertiary institutions requires the number of intellectual property applications (IP) as one of the parameters for assessing accreditation.

"This patent is something that is innovative. With the existence of a patent system, all innovations can be downstreamed and can be commercialized so that they are not only pursuing accreditation. The number of patent applications from IPB University is currently 241, more increased than before," he said.

Chairperson of LKST IPB University, Prof Erika B Laconi said that LKST IPB University was formed to bridge between innovators and the market to commercialize their innovative products.

"IPB University's LKST never stops to always motivate innovators to continue to improve the quality of intellectual work, so that no lecturers market their own innovative products. We want lecturers and students to continue to drive startups," said Prof Erika.

She emphasized that lecturers and students must be able to be appreciated in their fields of expertise and research, so that all of their intellectual property can be downstream. Thus, the results of their work can benefit society and can be widely disseminated.

During the presentation of the material, Ir Alex Rahman explained the material on Introduction to IP Systems and Management. "In line with autonomy in the management of tertiary institutions, the role of the IP system can no longer be ruled out. Universities are expected to interact more with industry, government and non-government institutions," he explained.

Apart from that, Alex also explained how to get used to using patent information. This is useful for exploring new ideas in creating creative work as a strategy for preparing and processing research results into patents.

Another resource person, Ir Lidya Winarsih explained material related to the preparation and writing of patent document specifications. He mentioned several points regarding the importance of writing patent specifications.

“Writing patent specifications is important to use for patent applications so that the patent office will examine the application. An application can be considered withdrawn if it does not meet the physical requirements and is not written clearly and completely," said Ir Lidya. (Lp/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
