IPB University Graduate School (SPs) held a Joint Consortium Online Class themed Tropical Agricultural Environment toward Regional Sustainability, (28/6–2/8). This program is implemented online, attended by master's and doctoral program students from seven universities in Indonesia and abroad.

Participants totaled 65 students consisting of 61 master's program students and 4 doctoral students from IPB University, Brawijaya University, Gadjah Mada University, Lampung University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (Pakistan), Ibaraki University (Japan) and the University of The Ryukyus (Japan).

In his remarks, the Dean of SPs IPB University, Prof Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat, said that the Joint Consortium Online Class program in 2023 was a collaboration between IPB University and Ibaraki University, University of The Ryukyus and Tokyo University of Agricultural and Technology. "The purpose of this activity is to understand regional sustainability through research and agricultural and environmental activities," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Dr Liyantono as the activity committee, this online class program is part of the Summer Course Program activities between IPB University and Ibaraki University which will be held in September 2023.

"IPB University and Ibaraki University will hold a summer course in September 2023 with the theme The International Summer Course Program for Agriculture and Ecosystem Resilience to Environmental Disaster toward Regional Sustainability," he explained.

The Joint Consortium Online Class is filled by various instructors including Prof Hadi Susilo Arifin (IPB University), Prof Damayanti (IPB University), Dr Liyantono (IPB University), Prof Tsukiji Kazuki (University of The Ryukyus), Prof Tasuku Kato (Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology) and Dr Nobuo Sakagami (Ibaraki University).

The inaugural lecture with the theme Sustainable Agriculture Landscape. This Joint Consortium Online Class activity is also filled with other interesting themes such as the Transdisciplinary approach to sustainability development, How to conserve biodiversity resources against their current threats? and Characteristics of the agricultural environment in tropical areas and Sustainability of tropical agriculture.

The opening of this program was attended by representatives from Ibaraki University, University of The Ryukyus, and Tokyo University of Agricultural and Technology as well as invitees from IPB University. (HBL/Rz) (IAAS/BLA)
