Farmers and Fishermen Center (TNC) IPB University collaborated with PT Badak LNG in supporting community development in Tihi-Tihi Atas Laut Village. This was done through a cooperative meeting between TNC IPB University and PT Badak LNG on (27/6) at the Corporate Communication Department Building of PT Badak LNG, Bontang City, East Kalimantan.

Vice Head of TNC IPB University, Dr Roza Yusfiandayani welcomed this collaboration program well. She said that community development in Tihi-Tihi was a different challenge for TNC IPB University as a form of community service there.

"We are very proud to be able to contribute to the development of the fishing community in Tihi-Tihi, because this is also a challenge for us as an agency that needs to give concrete results to the community," she said.

PT Badak LNG Senior Manager Corporate Communication and General Support, Yuli Gunawan, thanked TNC IPB University for supporting this program. According to her, the main problem in this program can be focused on developing fishermen around Bontang City, such as in Tihi-Tihi Atas Laut Village.

"As much as 70 percent of the area in Bontang City is sea with the majority of the population being fishermen, so it is very fitting if the development is for fishermen community groups. Therefore, the initial step for cooperation is to implement portable FADs for fishermen in Tihi-Tihi," she said.

Yuli also added that this collaboration could be carried out for seaweed cultivation carried out by the community in Tihi-Tihi Atas Laut Village.

"Before carrying out post-harvest, it is better to provide assistance in seaweed nurseries and pest control because the scarcity of seeds and pest control are problems that often occur," she explained.

This collaboration program is expected to be an effective solution to advance and improve the welfare of fishermen in the Tihi-Tihi area. (Norma/Rz) (IAAS/Hap)
