IPB University Postgraduate School Biochemistry Doctoral Program Opens Registration This Year

The Postgraduate School (SPs) of IPB University opens registration for the Biochemistry Doctoral Study Program (BIK). The BIK Doctoral Study Program opens registration for new students in the second phase of the odd semester through the regular and by research routes which will open from 2 May to 16 July 2023.

The BIK doctoral program is a study program under the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) IPB University which has just opened in accordance with the Decree of the Rector of IPB University number 141 of 2023.

Prof Hasim, Head of the BIK Study Program, said that the background for the establishment of the BIK doctoral program was to provide access to education in the doctoral fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. This is in accordance with the Strategic Plan (Renstra) of IPB University, namely expanding access and improving the quality of education and student affairs.

"Currently there are no tertiary institutions, both public and private, that have held the BIK Doctoral Program. Therefore, this can improve the image of IPB University as one of the leading state universities in opening the doctoral program in biochemistry," he said.

Prof Hasim added, another goal is to improve the performance of human resources (HR) who are experts in the field of biochemistry by creating an academic atmosphere for the Department of Biochemistry and IPB University. Furthermore, initiating networks and collaborations with various institutions both local, national, regional and international in education, research and community service activities.

"The difference with other doctoral programs is related to the depth of understanding of science or knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology in responding to challenges in the fields of health, bioindustry, bioenergy, agriculture, environment and biomimetic futuristic technology," he explained.

In a separate interview, Prof Hasim also said that currently a very complete biochemistry laboratory is available at the Dramaga Campus of IPB, Bogor. In addition, IPB University also has an Advanced Research Laboratory which can support the research of all students.

"We are also collaborating with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Ministry of Agriculture and utilizing existing laboratories in Bogor as a research city in Indonesia, especially research in agriculture," he said.
