HSC IPB University Holds ToT, Preparing Halal Butchers
Halal Science Center (HSC) IPB University held a Training of Trainer (ToT) for Halal Butchers at Bigland Hotel International and Convention Hall, Bogor (15/5). This activity was held for 6 days from May 15-20, 2023 with 15 participants who were competent halal butcher practitioners in the DKI Jakarta Province.
In his remarks, the Secretary of HSC Center IPB University, Dr Noviyan Darmawan said that Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee (JPH Law) has regulated the issue of providing halal products for the people of Indonesia as a mandate that must be carried out which states that products circulating in Indonesia must be certified halal.
According to him, one of the critical points in halal products is meat and processed products (beef, mutton, and chicken). This is because beef, mutton, and chicken are raw materials that are very much used by the food and restaurant industries.
"Large industries and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) using meat raw materials that will carry out halal certification are required to use meat with clear halal status," he said.
Daily Executive (Plh) Vice Rector of IPB University for Research, Innovation, and Community Development, Prof. Sugeng Heri Suseno hopes that this activity can produce competent halal slaughter trainers.
"I hope that later participants can become competent halal butcher trainers so that it has an impact on increasing the production of safe, healthy, intact, and halal (ASUH) slaughtered meat in DKI Jakarta," he said.
In addition, Prof Sugeng also conveyed the three points of community service innovation, replication, and sustainability. The innovation that has been developed by IPB University in the field of animal husbandry is animal feed, namely singer.
Secretary of DKI Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Fisheries Agency (DKPKP), Ali Surahman added, his party is committed and concerned about halal products. According to him, Jakarta Government has collaborated with IPB University since 2016 to create competent halal butchers.
"Hopefully this opportunity can be used by participants to add useful knowledge and ensure the availability of halal food in DKI Jakarta," he hoped. (dr/Rz)(IAAS/TNY)
