Faculty of Animal Sciences IPB University Provides Provision of Preparation for Poultry Competency Exams and Certification

The Faculty of Animal Sciences (Fapet) IPB University held a webinar on hatching poultry and feed mixing systems (21/5). This webinar is conducted together as a collaboration with PT Charoen Pokphand (CP) Indonesia Tbk and the Professional Certification Institute (LSP) of Agribusiness Ambissi-Bogor.

This activity is the opening of a series of technical guidance and training events in preparation for competency exams and certification of hatching egg operators and feed mixers, especially for certification participants. However, it is also open to the public for anyone who wants to know the world of poultry and the importance of competency certification.

“In recent years, Fapet IPB University has collaborated with LSP Ambisi to certify the competencies of prospective graduates. By carrying out the certification, it is hoped that participants will have stronger abilities so that they have higher competitiveness at work,” he said.

Prof. Iman Rahayu Hidayati Soesanto, Professor of the Fapet IPB University who attended explained that for the certification of hatching eggs or feed mixers, it consists of core competencies, namely Occupational Health and Safety (K3) and biosecurity. The selected competencies for hatching eggs are managing hatching eggs, incubating hatching eggs and harvesting chicks.

“Meanwhile for feed mixers, the competency of choice is mixing feed ingredients, calculating the amount of feed and storing feed and feed ingredients, all of which are followed by the final decision being competent or not competent,” he explained further.

One of the speakers, Dr. Maria Ulfah explained a number of materials in her presentation with a view to increase individual understanding and capacity regarding hatching of poultry eggs. The lecturer at the Fapet of IPB University from the Department of Animal Production and Technology (IPTP) explained several things presented including the stages of hatching poultry eggs, hatching egg quality, methods of evaluating hatching success and quality of chicks.

Another resource person who is also a lecturer at Fapet IPB University from the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology (INTP), Dr. Rita Mutia delivered material on mixing poultry feed. She mentioned the importance of preparing good feed to ensure livestock productivity.

“Why is feed an important thing that we have to take into account? Because feed is the biggest cost in the structure cost of a livestock business, it can reach 80 percent. We have to prepare good feed with balanced nutrition in accordance with the needs of livestock, this will ensure good livestock productivity,” she explained

From the industrial sector, there was also an alumni of Fapet IPB University, Moh Jamaludin Malik SPt who currently serves as General Manager of Hatchery and Technical Quality Control at PT CP Indonesia.

The man who has been with PT CP for more than 26 years explained the background to the development of poultry hatchery technology and conveyed several trends in the tools used in hatcherie both broiler and layer chickens. He also talks about the technological changes that are developing in the world of hatcheries.

The last material was delivered by Ir Sunarbowo from LSP Agribusiness Ambissi regarding the importance of competency certification for students.
