IPB University Launches Action Research and IPB Cares for Post-Disaster in Cianjur Regency

IPB University through the Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI), the Directorate of Agromartial Community Development (PMA), and the Center for Disaster Studies (PSB) held a Launching of Action Research and Post-Disaster Care of IPB at the Cianjur District Government Office Hall (30/3). This activity presented the results of post-earthquake studies in Cianjur Regency by four IPB University researchers including Dr Doni Yusri, Muchammad Bachtiar MM, Dr Tin Herawati, and Dr Kastana Sapanli.

In his remarks, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Agromaritime Community Development, Prof Ernan Rustiadi said, IPB University had taken various steps such as action research, fundraising and distributing aid to various disaster-affected places in Cianjur Regency.

"IPB University strives to always be present in remote parts of the country to provide research innovations and various service programs that are of direct benefit to the community. IPB University also continues to be committed to continuing community development programs such as the Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T) program in Cianjur Regency in the future," he said.

The Regent of Cianjur, H Herman Suherman, MAP appreciated the quick response for the various assistance provided by IPB University. According to him, the four research innovations that have been carried out by IPB University will be accepted and become the policy of the Cianjur Regency government in efforts to recover people affected by disasters.

“Cianjur Regency is the second largest district in West Java and is rich in agricultural products. We hope that after this disaster it will bring blessings and the economy can recover soon with innovation from IPB University," he said.

The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria said that IPB University was present with several researchers to conduct action research and IPB Post-Disaster Care in the Cianjur district. IPB University is ready to support Cianjur Regency to become an advanced district. This is in accordance with IPB University's mandate, which is to provide direct impact and benefit to the community.

"Many IPB University innovations can be developed in Cianjur Regency such as chilies, vegetable seeds and papaya calina. We are also preparing marketing for the production as well so that the crops can later be sold back to IPB University. The impact can encourage the economic growth of the people in Cianjur Regency," he said.

In this activity, the Post-Disaster Action of IPB Care was carried out in Cianjur Regency which was symbolically received by the Head of Ciputri Village-Pacet District, the Head of Cigrass Village-Cugenang District, the Head of Gasol Village-Cugenang District and representatives of the staff of the IPB Experimental Garden in Pasir Sarongge. This step is a form of IPB University's concern for the disaster that hit Cianjur Regency.

In addition, Prof Arif Satria also made a field visit to the Pasir Sarongge Experimental Garden. This experimental garden area is also a place of refuge for the surrounding community after the earthquake in Cianjur Regency.

Rahmat, one of the residents of Ciputri Village who was affected by the disaster, expressed his gratitude to IPB University for the assistance in the form of groceries and temporary shelter in the Pasir Sarongge Experimental Garden area. (dr/Rz) (IAAS/MFR)
