Hundreds of Senior High School Students participate in one Day Lectures at Faculty of Economics and management of IPB University
The Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), IPB University held a " one Day Lecture with Faculty of Economics and Management of IPB University" by inviting hundreds of senior high school students and equivalent in whole Jabodetabeksuci, on Wednesday (5/2) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Management ( FEM) IPB University, Dramaga Campus of IPB, Bogor. The purpose of this lecture activity was increasing the motivation and interest of high school students to continue their education to higher education, especially in the study program at FEM IPB University.
Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs of FEM IPB University, Dr. Anna Fariyanti explained about FEM IPB University. She said FEM IPB University was the 8th faculty at IPB University. The establishment of FEM IPB University is based on the philosophy that IPB University is the only one agricultural university in Indonesia that got the holistic mandate to develop Agricultural knowledge and technology but does not have a faculty whose mandate is to develop economics and management to support agricultural development, specifically and Indonesia's economic development in general.
"Therefore, the presence of FEM IPB University will strengthen Indonesia's micro and macroeconomic agriculture. Officially, FEM IPB University was established on April 6, 2001, by having two study programs. That the reason for the existence of FEM IPB University, which is to support agriculture through the development of economics and management for the welfare of society, "said Dr. Anna.
Dr. Anna added, initially, FEM IPB University only had two study programs namely Development Economics and Management. Now FEM IPB University has 5 study programs namely Development Economics, Management, Agribusiness, Resource Economics, and Environment and Sharia Economics.
Most likely the study program at FEM IPB University will keep growing the same as the needs of the community and the demands of the times. It is well known that the main pillar of sustainable economic development is the development of agriculture which aims to improve the welfare of the people and the country fairly.
She said this is the consideration of high school graduates choosing majors and colleges. Most courses at FEM IPB University use a quantitative approach so every course has arithmetic. Therefore, high school graduates who want to enter FEM IPB University are expected to like calculations.
"But from all of that, a lot of things will be gained when using a quantitative approach in each course. Quantitative approaches teach us to think logically and analytically. So that graduates of FEM IPB University are famous for their good numerical analysis skills and are able to predict phenomena and decision-making measurable, "added Dr. Anna.
The IPB University lecturer also explained that the employment prospects of FEM IPB University graduates are very broad. That is because FEM IPB University graduates have strong analytical skills so they can easily adapt to diverse work environments.
This public lecture presented two speakers at FEM IPB University, Prof. Akhmad Fauzi Syam, and Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik. Prof. Akhmad Fauzi explained the role of FEM IPB University in creating superior human resources (HR). According to her, learn economics will create superior people to overcome complex economic challenges in the future.
"There are several things that must be the main priority in the development of superior quality human resources. These priorities include a good and quality education system. To achieve this, it is necessary to restructure the overall education system, especially with regard to the quality of education and its relevance to the needs of the community and the world of work.
In this case, FEM IPB University has an important role in the delivery of an effective and efficient education system, as well as being oriented to the mastery of science and technology and to approve analytical skills which are certainly will benefit life.
Meanwhile, Dr. Irfan explained about the nation's development through the Islamic economy. He delivered about the contribution of Islamic economics which is currently increasingly significant in stimulating economic growth. This is proved by the opening of employment opportunities, reducing unemployment, reducing poverty, controlling inflation, strengthening people's purchasing power and strengthening the Indonesian economy as a whole. Therefore, Indonesia can be strong and prosperous and all components of society can enjoy the impact of this national Islamic economic and financial development.
According to Dr. Irfan, the strengthening of islamic economic literacy needs to be done on all components both internal government and state institutions, business people, and society as a whole. "This is very important so that each component is aware of the importance of optimizing the potential of the Islamic economy. It needs to be understood about the importance of the development of the halal industry, and see it not from an ideological aspect, but from an economic aspect," said Dr. Irfan.
He also explained the role of sharia economic models in the form of upholding the rule of law, increasing purchasing power through the distribution of Baitul Mal assets and building transportation and agricultural infrastructure.
