Superior Local Chicken, IPB D-1 Starts Mass Production
IPB University in partnership with UD Lestari Farm to develop the IPB D-1 Chicken variety. This partnership is under the coordination of Faculty of Animal Sciences and Directorate of Innovation and Intellectual Property of IPB University.
The signing of Surat Perjanjian Kerjasama (SPK) license between IPB University and UD Lestari Farm was done by Vice Rector of Innovation, Business and Entrepeneurship, Prof Erika B Laconi and UD Citra Lestari Farms Director, Ir Bambang Krista in the Rectors Assembly Room, Andi Hakim Nasoetion Building, Dramaga Campus, Bogor, (3/1).
In her greetings, Prof Erika claims that IPB Universitys mission is to turn inventions into innovations. Research results impacts cannot be felt by the people as a whole if they are still inventions. It will have become innovations once the people has felt its impacts.
“I am happy to be able to conserve and develop our superior local chickens through this partnership. IPB D-1 is a breed of superior local chicken through cross breeding, invention of Prof Cece Sumantri, an esteemed professor from the Faculty of Animal Sciences. This invention will be produced by UD Lestari Farm,she says.
According to her this partnership not only will this develop and commercialize IPB D-1, but it will be open for student intern and joint research programs. This is connected to one of IPB Universitys main objectives in creating excellent human resources. With this internship program, chances for students to learn business practices will be created.
There are still hundreds of inventions ready to be commercialized by businessmen and into partnerships,Prof Erika expresses. A similar message was given by the Vice Dean of Animal Sciences Faculty, Dr Rudi Afnan. He hopes all parties involved in this partnership can synergize well and innovative products of Animal Sciences Faculty can be felt by the people.
All the while, Prof Cece Sumantri says that development of IPB D-1 Chickens was based on research since 2012. This chicken has good immunities from disease, 40 percent egg yield. Aside from that, multi-location tests prove it has excellent growth rate. Chickens are plump and grows fast. Harvestable around 10 months. IPB University is one of the few higher education institutions able to release varieties of new chickens endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture with SK No. 693/KPTS/PK.230/M/9/2019. This partnership is currently in development of Day Old Chicken (DOC) or chicken young,she proclaims. (IAAS/RCD)
