As many as 20 IPB University students from the diving community participated in the Jakarta Maritime Festival 2019. The activity, which was held by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta on September 21-22, 2019, was held on Tidung Island, Pramuka Island, and Pari Island in the Thousand Islands Administration District.

IPB University students were directly involved either as fellow representatives from the campus or as participants in the series of Bina Cina Laut (underwater and coastal clean up) events, coral transplantation, and mangrove planting on Tidung Island. "We are very pleased to be part of this activity, we hope this small contribution will benefit the sea of Jakarta," said Chansa Hilmira, a student of the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK). "On this occasion we were involved as divers to conduct underwater clean up. Some of our friends from IPB University also participated in the coastal clean up event," added the divers who are certified as open water.

The event was opened by the DKI Jakarta Province's Department of Food, Maritime and Agricultural Security (DKPKP). In addition, at the top of the Maritime Festival event, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Province, Anies Baswedan, on Tidung Besar Island, ended the whole series of events.

The 2019 Jakarta Maritime Festival is one step and a form of commitment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in carrying out conservation and rehabilitation of marine ecosystems by planting 1 million mangrove seeds, 1.5 million coral seeds, and 2.4 million fish seeds which will be distributed and released to the sea. as a form of fish restocking. This series of activities was also enlivened with various competitions, including underwater photo competitions, coastal culture photos, open water swimming and ornamental boat competitions. (NR)
