There was a difference with Healthy Morning Walk (Japas) IPB University 2019. Thousands of participants brought their own tumblers while attending the morning walk. Japas was the proof of commitment of IPB University to achieve green campus, in which one of the commitments was reducing the use of plastic packaging. The participants could fill their water bottle in several points.

“Now we are going for Green Campus 2020. Today we have successfully let go of plastic bottles and opt into tumbler. Not only using tumbler, we cannot dispose trash carelessly. We have to start sorting the trash according to the type. Alhamdulillah, we are now in the Top 40 in the world for The Most Sustainable University nomination. I hope we can continue this achievement to reach the top of The Most Sustainable University in the world,” said IPB University Rector, Dr. Arif Satria when opening Japas 2019 in IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (8/9).

This event was a part of the 56th Dies Natalis IPB University celebration. The Head of Committee, which also the Institute Secretary, Dr. Ir. Aceng Hidayat said that Japas had been conducted annually for 20 years to celebrate Dies Natalis.

“For us, there are three main objectives from this Lapas. First, internalizing healthy lifestyle by walking and reducing the usage of private vehicle. Second, building a solidarity spirit. In the event, there are dozens of prizes like bicycle, electronics, and vouchers that are expected to give happiness to the participants. Third, Japas is a platform to convey the strategic policy of IPB University, the Green Campus which has been started since 2012. After last year we focused on Green Transportation, this year we focus on reducing the usage of plastic packaging,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Committee of Japas 2019, Dr. Cahyono Tri Wibowo, Japas 2019 was participated by 10,000 participated from lecturers, academic staffs, students, alumni, and institution partners.

“The big theme of Japas 2019 is Internalize Walking Culture to Achieve IPB University as a Green Campus. IPB University currently starts to focus on the waste system management,. We will also focus on the usage of tumbler and the sorting of waste before final disposal,” he said.
