IPB University’s Archery Student Organizaton (UKM) conducted National Indoor Archery Competition in Gymnasium of IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (6/8). Hundreds of participants were present from various regions of Indonesia to compete in nine categories of the competition, starting from Elementary School (SD) category to adults. During the opening, the Vice Rector of Academic and Students’ Affair, Dr. Ir. Drajat Martianto, General Secretary of Indonesia National Sports Committee (KONI) of Bogor City, Bernhard Nicolas Lumowa and General Secretary of Indonesia Archery Associations (PERPANI), West Java branch, Ryan Agung Hendriana.

On that occasion, Dr. Drajat Martianto said that National Indoor Archery Competition is an important moment because this event is a part of IPB University’s 56th Dies Natalis. “Today, I’m proud looking at the youths’ enthusiasm in archery. Archery is very important for youths who are in their growing phase, especially regarding the fact that archery trains our focusing capacity. Focusing is very important for youths who are in their studies,” he said.

Drh. Mokhamad Fakhrul Ulum, M.Si as the Advisor of Archery UKM of IPB University said that this indoor competition is the third time held by IPB University.

“Usually we held outdoor competition in the Gymnasium’s backyard. Last time we held the indoor competition in last 2007. We hope that the event can run without any obstacle. Good luck,” he said.

Ryan Agung Hendriana expressed how proud he is at the conducting of the competition. Looking at the society’s enthusiasm in archery, West Java Perpani will formulate a better regulation regarding indoor and outdoor competitions so that they can optimally invite participation and to increase the human resources to be the judge and event’s organizing committee.

“I want to thank all committee and stakeholders who have contributed in the conducting of this event. We want to say that in West Java, the society’s animo in archery is very high. Starting from its enthusiasts, hobbyists, and athletes,” he said.

Similar things were expressed by Bernhard Nicolas Lumowa. Bernhard gave an award to IPB University students who had conducted such big competition.

“This competition, I think, is very important to initiate other similar events, because I see that the majority of the visitors and participants come from various ages, from Elementary School to college students. Those age ranges are what KONI needs as future athletes. I really hope that competitions like this can be conducted annually so that our athletes have more platforms to practice. Once this competition can produce professional athletes, it is very good, especially with the fact that the attention from our government to our athletes is improving, with the implementation of retirement fund and entitlement as National Civil Apparatus (ASN),” he said.
