Statisticians from Four Countries Gathered at IPB University to Discuss the Role of Statisticians

The Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of IPB University held an International Conference on Statistics and Analytics at the Swiss Belhotel Bogor, (2-3/8). Statisticians from Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Thailand joined this event.
In his remarks, Rector of IPB University, Dr. Arif Satria said that the role of statisticians is very important. Statisticians have the analytic data to face challenges in the 4.0 industrial era that is full of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA).
"We need to develop scientific data to present new skills. Collaboration is also important to obtain new concepts and strategies in a new era," he added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bagus Sartono as the Chairperson of the conference said that this activity discussed various fields of science that require the role of statisticians such as business, climate, health and medicine, insurance, education, and human genes.
"The event was attended by 50 participants from universities throughout Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Besides discussing areas that require the role of statisticians, this activity also discussed the statistics 4.0 and initiated curriculum changes and curriculum socialization," he said.
In addition, according to the Chairperson of the Statistics Department of IPB University, Dr. Anang Kurnia, research collaboration that has statistical and computational capabilities is urgently needed. With this activity, Dr. Anang hoped that there will be an increase in research at IPB University related to statistics and computing.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of IPB University also said that this conference was expected to open up insights on data processing.
"Scientific data can help make a proper, efficient, and effective decision. Currently, information related to data is not only in the form of numbers, but also in the form of photographic images and infographic. The important thing is how the data can be collected, be read, and be part of the solution," he said. (dh/zul/zsp)
