IPB University New Students Expected to Prevent National Conflict

Head of Intelligence and Security Division (Kabaintelkam), Indonesian Police Force (Polri), Commissioner General Drs Agung Budi Maryoto, MSi delivered a message about preserving the Bhinneka in the light of national defense (bela negara) to 4000 IPB University new students during the Bela Negara talkshow in Grha Widya Wisuda, Dramaga Campus, Bogor (9/8). In the event, which is a part of Campus Introduction Period for New Students (MPKMB), Commissioner General Agung hopes that students, as the next generation of the nation has to guard Indonesia so there would be no conflict.

“IPB University students have to manage well so that there would be no internal conflict. Don’t highlight on the differences, but the similarities instead. IPB University students also have to keep the unity and shouldn’t easily share unverified information. If we are not united, our nation would be like countries with religious conflicts and other turmoil. Let’s all preserve the Bhinneka to guard our nation’s unity,” he said.

Aside from the Police Force, this year’s MPKMB also invited a speaker from the National Army (TNI), Academic General Commander, Laksamana Madya Aan Kurnia, S.Sos. In his speech, Laksamana Aan said that defending the nation is not solely the job of TNI and Polri. Students being diligent in their study is also a form of national defense.

“Globalization and modernization have transformed the current culturalization into a threat and is ruining Indonesia’s great cultures. You, as someone who has intellectuality has to be the pioneer in each of your areas. You have to be different with your brothers and sisters who don’t have the luxury to study in IPB University. Let’s make Indonesia a friendly nation again, which can defend its national cultures. Respect your parents and seniors. You, batch 56 of IPB University, has to transmit kindness. Indonesia is your home and future, be the most advanced generation,” he said. (Ard)
