IPB University Admitted as the Best State University in Joint Publication
The Director of Research and Community Service, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti), Prof Ocky Karna Radjasa during his keynote speech at the 4th Embryo International Symposium (EIS) in IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor (5/8) said that IPB University is the best higher education institution in a joint publication. IPB University Joint Publication reaches 29 percent. The second position is secured by Indonesia Institute of Sciences (LIPI) which reaches 16 percent.
“Because of that, the attempts done by IPB University and LIPI in attaining the achievement can be replicated by other higher education institutions, which are still lacking in their scientific publication,” he said.
The Director of Enhancing Marine Biodiversity Research in Indonesia (Embrio), who is also a researcher of IPB University, Dr Mala Nurilmala, IPB University is the leader in research, which explores marine biodiversity in Indonesia. One of the methods is through Embrio.
“Last year, through Embrio, IPB University managed to publish 84 scopus proceeding indexed papers. This year, we plan to only publish 90 proceedings at minimum and will be published again to scopus proceeding, Hayati Journal, and Biotropia Journal. In the national scale, Jurnal Pengolahan Hasil Perairan Indonesia, Jurnal Teknologi dan Manajemen Perikanan Laut, Jurnal Ilmu dan Teknologi Kelautan Tropis, Jurnal Iktiologi Indonesia, Jurnal Akuakultur Indonesia and Jurnal Teknosains,” he added.
Embrio is an interdiscipline and interfaculty research cluster in IPB University. The international symposium held by Embrio is conducted to explore and develop marine biodiversity through various researches. The event was conducted in the form of presentations with the topic of Innovative Solution and Technology for Marine Biodiversity and Sustainable Fisheries. The activity is to discuss practical challenges and solutions to be adopted.
The fourth EIS partners with the 7th International Symposium of East Asia Fisheries and Technologists Association (EAFTA). Last year, EAFTA was held in China and the next year in Vietnam.
This year, Embrio will conduct Embrio International Summer Course in Kepulauan Seribu, coordinated by Dr Roza Yusfiandayani. The Embrio International Symposium is coordinated by Dr Asadatun Abdullah.
The Dean of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University, Dr Luky Adrianto said that currently Indonesia faces many challenges, such as the issue about biodiversity management as national asset and to defend stock security and the flow of marine biodiversity as parts of national security. To answer those challenges, scientific platforms have to be developed and used to understand, utilize, and conserve marine biodiversity.
“Embrio is here as a partnership platform in providing and investing in biodiversity knowledge. We hope that the event will bring many ideas to strengthen the relationship between science and communication in the future, especially in marine biodiversity conservation and management as a national asset for the sake of national welfare,” he said.
In this event, a memorandum of understanding signing was also done between IPB University, Indonesia High School of Fisheries (STP), and Marine and Fisheries Social Economics Research Center (BBRSEKP) Indonesia. (Ard)
