20 students from Asia and Europe studied Food Security Management at IPB University

In order to maintain the availability and food security in Indonesia, the Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University held a summer course under the name “Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia.” This activity was carried out from 18 August to 28 August 2019.

Vice Rector for Cooperation and Information Systems, IPB University, Prof. Dr. Ir Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat said that during this summer course the participants can learn and discuss their experiences in the food sector.

“In Indonesia, participants not only learn aspects of science but can also learn about the traditions and culture of the Indonesian people, especially in Bogor,” he said.

He added, to get to know the culture of the people of Bogor, the participants could visit tourist attractions in Bogor such as the Bogor Botanical Gardens, Taman Safari Bogor and Bogor Peak.

This year’s summer course participants were 20 people from Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Germany, Thailand, India and Malaysia. During this summer course, participants will participate in various activities such as paper presentations, seminars, field trips, and competitions. Field trip activities will be carried out in several places such as Agatho Organic Farm, the Institute for the Study of Panga, Medicines and Cosmetics of the Indonesian Ulama Council (LPPOM MUI) and the Indonesian Office of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

One of the SAMI 2019 participants, Kun Rithy from Cambodia was very pleased with this activity.

“This is very special for me, I feel, besides feeling the summer program I can also meet people from various countries to communicate and learn about food agriculture management,” he said.

The participant who first came to Indonesia hoped that by joining this summer course he could learn about agriculture, especially agricultural management in Indonesia, so that after completing the program, he could share his experiences with the people in his country.

“When I return from Indonesia, I will share my experiences with people in my country, and I hope I can apply the material I got during this summer course,” he concluded (NR)
