In order to prepare the IPB University Educational Curriculum Year 2020, the Vocational School held a Forum of the Mandatory Course Development Briefing for IPB University’s Vocational School on Thursday (4/7) at IPB International Convention Center, Bogor. The briefing was given to all lecturers of the Vocational School.

“In order to formulate the IPB curriculum year 2020, we want to restructure and revise the substance of three compulsory courses in the Vocational School, namely Computer Application, Introduction to Agroindustry, and Entrepreneurship,” said Dean of the Vocational School of IPB University, Dr. Ir. Arief Daryanto, M.Ec. He hoped that by restructuring and revising the substance of the courses, the curriculum will be in line with the technological and industrial developments 4.0.

Rector of IPB University, Dr. Arif Satria in his remarks explained about the efforts of IPB University to harmonize the substance of the lectures so that it could support the vision of IPB University. “We need to integrate IPB University’s vision into something that is more detailed, both in institution, lectures, curriculum, and research,” said Dr. Arif. He emphasized that this is very important to be done as an effort to welcome the technological and industrial development 4.0.

Currently, he continued, industrial revolution 4.0 not only speaks about technology 4.0 which consists of drones, block chain, artificial intelligent and internet of things, but revolution 4.0 is a matter of mindset and of changing ways of thinking and behaving, including leadership. Furthermore, Dr. Arif said that the industrial revolution 4.0 has an impact on the economic revolution. At present, the economic revolution has reached super information society 5.0. “Therefore, the lecture material given to students should already have the latest contents. So we have to update the lecture development in order to be in accordance with current development, especially those with economic and technological characteristics,” he said.

With the adaptation of lecture material to current technological and industrial development, Dr. Arif hoped that an industrial atmosphere at the IPB University’s Vocational School could be created. According to him, vocational school is set-up to be able to adapt to the development of skills and jobs which are so dynamic.

On the other hand, Dr. Arif explained that currently individuals have changed following technological development, but these individual changes have not been accompanied by changes at the institutional level. “Our lives, behavior and lifestyles have changed, but these changes have not occurred at the institutional level. Therefore, inevitably, we must change,” he added.

So far, to keep up with the changes that have taken place, IPB University has tried to produce technology-based innovations such as fruit sweetness detector, trexfish, smart coastal management, fire risk system, biofuel 4.0, smart agrologistic, smart aquaculture, fastrex, and smart robotic. “Actually IPB University is ready, but if we cannot run fast, we will be left behind from the others,” concluded Dr. Arif.
