IPB University Students Teach Residents of Subang Oyster Mushroom Cultivation

IPB University students who participated in the Real Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) in Gunung Tua village, Cijambe Sub-district, Subang gave socialization of Oyster Mushroom Cultivation and the use of husk stoves to villagers. This activity aims to introduce the prospect of oyster mushroom cultivation and the use of rice husk as cooking fuel.

Ana Daryana, Chair of RW 09 Gunung Tua Village, said that with this socialization, residents of Gunung Tua Village are expected to be able to act independently in creating their own business, one of them is through the business of oyster mushrooms.

“With this socialization, residents of RW 09 are expected to be able to create their own efforts in fulfilling their lives. Especially for Karang Taruna Desa Gunung Tua who are very interested in starting this oyster mushroom business,” Ana said.

In addition to oyster mushrooms, Gunung Tua Village has potential especially in rice fields. The rice husk which is usually only thrown away or used as a base for livestock pens by residents can be used as fuel for cooking. The socialization of the husk stove is expected to change people’s perceptions of rice husks to be utilized in their daily needs.

This year IPB University sent 2,555 students to conduct a Real Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) in 29 districts / cities with details of 26 regencies / cities in Java and 3 districts outside Java, namely Padang Lawas Regency, Simalungun Regency, Ternate City and Tikep. (NR)
