IPB University Students Promote Social Forestry during KKN-T in Bandung
The IPB University Team, which is conducting a Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) 2019 in Cipelah Village, Rancabali Sub-District, Bandung Regency, socialized Social Forestry. The socialization led by Dr. Soni Trison, a lecturer from the Forest Management Department of the Faculty of Forestry, IPB University was held at Cipelah Village Hall, Bandung (17/7). In his presentation, Dr. Soni explained about the definition of social forestry, rules, and examples of its implementation in other regions.
“In social forestry, commitment and collaboration from community and parties are needed to make the program successful. With this socialization activity, we hope that there will be additional knowledge and awareness of the community to preserve the forest for the community’s welfare,” he said.
According to him, social forestry in the working area of Perum Perhutani is regulated through two ministerial regulations, namely No P83/2016 and P39/2017. Regulation No. P83/2016 concerning Social Forestry becomes a new milestone in the community forestry movement in Indonesia.
“This regulation clarifies the system of sustainable forest management carried out in state or private forest or customary forest areas by local communities or customary law communities as the main actors to improve their welfare, environmental balance and socio-cultural dynamics in the form of Village Forests, Community Forests [HKm], Community Plantation Forests [HTR], Community Forests, Customary Forests, and Forestry Partnerships,” he said.
This regulation also clarifies who is the manager or beneficiary of these social forestry schemes and the procedure for obtaining their rights or permits to use them. Social forestry in the Perum Perhutani working area is a sustainable forest management system in state forest areas managed by Perum Perhutani. This social forest is used by the local community to improve their welfare, environmental balance and socio-cultural dynamics in the form of forest utilization permits.
“Permit for Utilization of Social Forestry Forest, hereinafter referred to as IPHPS, is a business in the form of area utilization, utilization of timber forest products in plantation forests, utilization of non-timber forest products in plantation forests, water utilization, water energy utilization, natural tourism services utilization, natural tourism facilities utilization, utilization of carbon sequestration in production forests and protected forests, and utilization of carbon storage in protected forests and production forests,” he said.
This activity was attended by the Cipelah Village Officials, community leaders, coffee farmers, Forest Farmers Group, and the Forest Village Community Institute of Cipelah Village. (**/Zul/zsp)
