As one of the leading public universities in Indonesia and in the world, IPB University wants to improve its protocol capability for work units, students of the Ambassador Institute and students of the Student Family Student Executive Board (BEM KM). One of the efforts made was to hold Protocol Training which was held in the Mahoni Room, Taman Kencana Campus, Bogor (29/7).

In the training attended by 58 participants, Head of the IPB University Communication Bureau, Yatri Indah Kusumastuti said that the knowledge of students and educational staff related to protocols needs to be improved to succeed the event they will manage. Arrangements in an event need to be done and an event needs a good arrangement.

According to him not many community members are aware of the importance of protocol arrangements even though the success of an event is also related to the implementation of good protocol. A dignified institution can carry out good protocol. Even an event organizer also requires knowledge of protocol.

“IPB University wants to develop its protocol team to become stronger. One of them is the formation of a protocol team in each faculty and study centers that often hold national and international seminars involving domestic and foreign state officials. We also want to involve students like BEM-KM. We will try to foster protocol agents to form a Protocol Student Activity Unit, “he said.

The same thing was conveyed by the Secretary of the Institute (SI) of IPB University, Dr. Aceng Hidayat. “Good or not an event is influenced by the implementation of good protocol. I hope this training can improve the quality of protocol services at IPB University. I am sure that with the presence of order and good service, it can improve the quality of an institution, “he added.

Meanwhile, the speakers who attended the training were Yayat Hendayana, Head of the Public Communication Section, Bureau of Cooperation and Public Communication, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). According to him, the face of the institution is reflected by its public relations or public relations. But the face of an institution in an event is reflected in its protocol. The ideal protocol must understand its role based on job descriptions and work guidelines (juridical basis, non-juridical, Standard Operating Procedure / SOP, and leadership direction).

“The protocol must have personal skills such as diplomacy, non-verbal communication and networking. The protocol must also have a supporting pack (neat, clean and attractive appearance). “The principle for a protocol must be communicative, responsive, responsive, anticipatory, innovative and able to place oneself,” he said.
