Approximately 98 IPB University students who were conducting a Real Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) were received by the Regent of Wonogiri, Joko Sutopo at the Wonogiri District Office (18/6). In this KKN-T, Joko asked students to participate in solving the problems of agriculture, livestock and environmental damage in Wonogiri Regency.

"IPB University is expected to encourage agricultural activities that are still traditional in nature and low understanding of the use of science and technology (science and technology) towards efficient and effective agriculture to be more profitable. Wonogiri is also facing challenges in the development of modern livestock and environmental damage which has an impact on the increasing rate of siltation in the Gajah Mungkur reservoir," he said.

According to him, the role of IPB University must continue to be encouraged in the form of other activities to help the Wonogiri Regional Government. During the last 3.5 years the Regional Government has built agriculture and is quite successful, as indicated by the decline in the poverty rate from 13.2 percent to 10.7 percent.

"This KKN-T activity will greatly help Wonogiri Regency in an effort to encourage efficient, effective, modern and more profitable agriculture and livestock, as well as mitigation efforts to reduce the Gajah Mungkur reservoir. To encourage the presence of other IPB University activities, I will schedule a special meeting between the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of IPB University and the Wonogiri Regency Government, "he added.

Present at this event were Deputy Head of LPPM IPB in Research, Prof. Dr. drh. Agik Suprayogi, MSc, Regional Coordinator of KKB-T IPB, Dr. Ir. Ninuk Purnaningsih, M.Sc, and Supervisor of Wonogiri Regency KKN-T Field Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Sulaeman, MS.

On this occasion Prof. Agik provided input regarding the downstreaming of the innovation model of IPB University which has been disseminated in various regions in Indonesia. Such as the Animal Husbandry School (SPR), the Rice Estate Community (KEP) and Integrated Forestry.

"The challenge of Regent Joko Sutopo is an opportunity for IPB University to share the role and responsibility in disseminating the results of research and innovation to the community in Wonogiri Regency. "IPB University LPPM will immediately respond to the challenge by forming an Expert Team which has been proven in its field so far," he said. (RYS)
