IPB and KIP Educate the Academic Community on Election Literacy

As an effort to educate the academic community on the Presidential Election (Pemilu), IPB University in collaboration with the Center of Information Commission (KIP) held a discussion on the ‘Urgency of Disclosure of Information in Means of Delivering a Quality Election”, Monday (11/3), at Dramaga Campus , Chairman of the Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) IPB, Dr. Aceng Hidayat said that the activity is crucial to be implemented to prevent the development of hoax amongst the campus community environment considering many individuals do not understand the interrelationships of public disclosure within elections. “Events like this educational discussion in the future will greatly help improve the quality of elections and other important agendas,” said the Secretary of  IPB University.

Gede Narayana, Chief Commissioner of the Center of Information Commission in his keynote speech said that in 2018, IPB received grace as a the  Most Informative State University (PTN) according to the Center of Information Commission. “The results of the classification of the annual monitoring and evaluation of the Center of Information Commission, especially legal entity universities in Indonesia determined IPB as the  Most Informative State University (PTN). “It means that the IPB in implementing legislation related to public information according to our judgement has done very well. Therefore, within the framework of this event KIP wants to prove goodwill to IPB by signing  the declaration of public disclosure. This discussion is also one form of IPB’s commitment to execute Act No. 14 of 2008 on Public Information, “said Narayana.

This activity invited Wafa Patria Umma (the Commissioner for Public Information Committee), Biem Benyamin (Commission I), and Samsudin (KPU chairman of Bogor City) as the keynote speakers. “Access to information is part of a quality democracy. Do not abstain and use your right to vote, because your vote determines the fate of our nation, “said Wafa Patria Umma.

The 2019 Election has predicted 32 percent are the millennial voters according to survey results from the respondents. IPB Dramaga as a source of millennial voters within Bogor Regency has done selected voter switch over not less than seven thousand students. “Manwhile the number of students in the 17 campuses in the city of Bogor including IPB, until now a total of  1,800 people have been selectively moved to the city of Bogor. The last requests to selectively switch over/ move the voting locations was dated March 17, 2018 to the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) origin by filling out the form and bringing A5 E-KTP, “said Samsudin, Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Bogor City. The session was moderated by IPB Head of Communications, Yatri Indah Kusumastuti who said that all public information can be accessed through the website IPB IPB page PPID http://ppid.ipb.ac.id as part of the implementation of transparency, accountability and public participation in disclosure of public information.

At the end of the event Rector, Dr. Arif Satria proved IPB as an Informative Campus commitment by reciting the Declaration of Disclosure and signed a declaration of disclosure. “Declaration of Disclosure IPB University, the rector of IPB expressed commitment to implement the mandate of Act No. 14 of 2008 on Public Information and becomes an Informative Campus which strives to provide transparent, accurate and accountable information to all stakeholders, “said Rector, Arif Satria.
