SATREPS, Faperta IPB’s Contribution in New Assesment of Agricultural Insurance Research

In line with the era of Industry 4.0, the Faculty of Agriculture Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) together with its partners from local institutions and abroad to take part in the study of “Development of Methods in New Assessment for Levels of Rice Damage Related to Global Warming in the Framework of Agricultural Insurance.” Research in the frame SATREPS (Science and Technology Research for Sustainable Development), which received support from JICA’s, involve foreign partners from Japan, among others, Chiba University, Tohoku University, Nihon University and NOSAI (manager of Japan’s agricultural insurance). While domestic partners consist of Udayana University, Department of Agriculture and Horticulture in West Java, as well as the Department of Agriculture Badung, Bali Province. In this study used advanced technology devices using satellite imagery, image drones and spectrophotometer to assess the level of damage to rice crops due to drought, floods and pest attack. The results of the assessment of the level of damage is expected to be a new approach for rice farming insurance claims.

Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting the second after this research project runs from October 2017, has been held at the Office of the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture of West Java province on December 4, 2018. Professor Chiharu Hongo (Chiba University) and Dr. Baba Barus (Faperta IPB) respectively as team leaders of both parties, the JCC was reported on the development of research and coordinating researchers and stakeholders involved. In addition to the parties involved in the research, JCC event was attended by representatives of JICA and the Ministry of Agriculture.

On the occasion of this second series of JCC, also held Scientific Committee Meeting. In this event, each group’s expertise of a team of researchers consisting of infrastructure, the assessment team drought, flood assessment teams, and the implementation team of institutional conduct intensive discussions and explained the progress of research and work plan next team. IPB experts were present and actively involved in the research team, among others, from the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources (Dr. Baba Barus, Dr. Boedi Tjahjono, Rani Yudarwati, MSi), Department of Agronomy and Horticulture (Dr. Iskandar Lubis, Dr. . Ahmad Junaidi), Department of Plant Protection (Dr. Suryo Wiyono), Department of Economics (Dr. Dedi Budiman Hakim), Department of Economic and Resources and the Environment (Adi Hadianto, MSi), and the Department of Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism (Prof. Lilik Budi Prasetyo, Dr. Yudi Setiawan).
