‘Pajak Bertutur’ in IPB Vocational School: Indonesia’s Tax Ratio is Far Behind Neighboring Countries

Bogor Tax Services Office (KPP), Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) Ministry of Finance in cooperation with Accounting Study Program, and Tax Center Bogor Agricultural University Vocational School (SV-IPB) conducted ‘Pajak Bertutur’ program, Friday (9/11) in IPB Campus, Baranangsiang.

This event was attended by students from Accounting, Agribusiness Management, and Industry Management study programs.

According to Budi Suroso, Head of Pratama Bogor KPP, this program aims to increase people’s awareness and knowledge about tax. “With ‘Pajak Bertutur’, students are expected to know more about what tax is, its purposes, and everything about tax, so in the future they will contribute in increasing tax awareness of Indonesians for the advancement of the nation,” said Budi.

In his opening speech, the Dean of IPB Vocational School, Dr. Ir. Arief Daryanto, DipAgE said that “tax-to-GDP ratio” of Indonesia is still far behind several neighboring countries. “In the last ten years, the tax ratio of Indonesia is about 11 percent. To encourage optimal economic growth a tax ratio threshold of 15 percent is needed,” explained Dr. Daryanto.

In addition to that Dr. Daryanto explained that according to available data, countries with middling income like Indonesia is supposed to have tax ratio around 16-18 percent. “With increasing people’s obedience in paying tax, the tax ratio will also increase,” he said. (Ard)
