Dozens of school principals and teachers from all over Bogor attended a Media Literacy Strengthening Seminar for Middle School Teachers as the key to the establishment of intelligent, critical and powerful students in front of media on Friday (9/11) at the Asana Hotel Grand Pangrango, Bogor. The event was held on the cooperation of the Center for Gender and Child Studies, Institute for Research and Community Service of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (PKGA IPPM LPPM) and the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia.

Dr.Ir. Budi Setiawan, MS, Head of PKGA LPPM IPB said that strengthening media literacy should be a movement. "We are from PKGA LPPM – IPB as one of the study centers that has the mandate to study gender responsive development, interpreting this activity as part of the tridharma of higher education in the field of service. A form of concern for the use of social media, various information that is illustrated and written. From the various information, there are true and many that are also incorrect, spread rapidly and affect the entire social, economic, political and cultural life. There are positive impacts but there are negative sides that are not in accordance with social, religious and legal norms," explained Dr. Budi.

According to Dr. Budi, in this era everyone can become an editorial board and it is very easy to spread information and ironically 18-year-olds are easily exposed. Almost all teenagers have social media accounts. "Indeed, in adolescence, curiosity to try new things is very high. There are many government efforts to block accounts that violate social and religious norms, but that alone has not been effective. Through this event, we strive with internal education as the educator's parents to strengthen positive control abilities and how the school's role provides education to their students," explained Dr. Budi.

Fattahilah, Assistant Deputy for Media Participation at the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia expressed her appreciation for the Center for Gender and Child Studies (PKGA) of LPPM IPB in encouraging and actively participating in strengthening media literacy for junior high school teachers. "The literacy of digital media must be a national movement.
